General Requirements

An applicant must be at least 21 years of age. Applicants must be United States citizens with no felony convictions, or misdemeanor convictions involving violence or moral turpitude. Applicants must have the following:

  • High School Diploma/GED Certificate​
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Military discharge form DD214 (if applicable)
  • Social Security Card
  • Birth Certificate
  • College Diploma (if applicable)
  • P.O.S.T. Entry Exam (refer to GA P.O.S.T. website)
  • Georgia Peace Officer Certificate (if applicable)

Requirement Activities

Recruitment activities are structured so that candidates must successfully complete all phases of the testing process. The phases of the recruitment process are:

  • Preliminary Reference Verification Interview
  • Background Check
  • Written Examination
  • Polygraph Test
  • Psychological Evaluation
  • Oral Interview
  • ​Physical Agility Evaluation
  • ​Assessment Center (if applicable)

Salary and Benefits

Starting Salaries
Non-Certified/Training Phase - $31, 652.13    *Upon successful completion of police academy pay increases to Certified level*
Certified -
$36,706.77
Other benefits available include insurance (80% Health, 100% Life), vacation leave, sick leave, military leave, holiday pay, retirement, and EAS service. A take-home vehicle is also assigned to those who live within 30 road miles from the Milledgeville Police Department.
