The Communications Unit is tasked with handling and dispatching all incoming calls to the department, including administrative calls and 911 calls, and dispatching and monitoring radio traffic for all patrol units. The Communications Unit is comprised of a supervisor and 8 communications officers, two assigned to each 12 hour shift.
The purpose of the Neighborhood Watch Program is to empower citizens to become active in homeland security efforts for a crime prevention initiative focused on residential areas involving local citizens. The goal of the Neighborhood Watch Program is to encourage the partnership between the police and the community. Preventing crime in our community is a shared responsibility between the police and our residents. The Neighborhood Watch Unit (N.W.U.) has been entrusted with the responsibility of empowering Milledgeville's residents to keep their neighborhoods safe. Safe neighborhoods and crime prevention education of our residents is our challenge and our goal. Neighborhood watch meetings are held on Tuesday’s of the month. The purpose of the meetings are to inform citizens on what is going on in their neighborhoods and also cover concerns for the City Of Milledgeville. Neighborhood watches are not vigilante organizations. When suspecting criminal activities members are encouraged to contact authorities and not to intervene.
