Neighborhood Watch

Picture
A neighborhood watch, also known as a crime watch or neighborhood crime watch, is an organized group of citizens devoted to the prevention of crime and vandalism within their neighborhood and throughout the city. In the United States it builds on the concept of a town watch from Colonial America.

The purpose of the Neighborhood Watch Program is to empower citizens to become active in homeland security efforts for a crime prevention initiative focused on residential areas involving local citizens.

The goal of the Neighborhood Watch Program is to encourage the partnership between the police and the community. Preventing crime in our community is a shared responsibility between the police and our residents. The Neighborhood Watch Unit (N.W.U.) has been entrusted with the responsibility of empowering Milledgeville's residents to keep their neighborhoods safe. Safe neighborhoods and crime prevention education of our residents is our challenge and our goal.

Neighborhood watch meetings are held on Tuesday’s of the month. The purpose of the meetings are to inform citizens on what is going on in their neighborhoods and also cover concerns for the City Of Milledgeville. Neighborhood watches are not vigilante organizations. When suspecting criminal activities members are encouraged to contact authorities and not to intervene. Lastly, call the Neighborhood Watch Unit at (478) 414-4041 to check on an upcoming meeting in your area or to schedule an available date and time for your first meeting.
