Office of Training & Professional Standards

The Office of Training and Professional Standards reports directly to the Chief of Police and is led by Lieutenant Jason Lopez. This office supports every division of the Milledgeville Police Department by overseeing certification, policy, accountability, and training.

Office Overview

The Office of Training and Professional Standards ensures that the Milledgeville Police Department operates in accordance with state law, professional best practices, and the expectations of the community we serve. The office provides oversight, guidance, and support for all major organizational systems that impact daily operations and long-term effectiveness.

Working under the direct supervision of the Chief of Police, the office coordinates with command staff, supervisors, and line personnel to maintain consistent standards across the department.

The Office of Training and Professional Standards functions as an extension of the Chief’s Office and is supervised by:

The office works closely with all divisions to support recruitment, training, accountability, and continuous improvement.

The Office of Training and Professional Standards is responsible for the following areas:

• Management of the State Certification Program
• Maintenance of departmental policy and procedures
• Internal affairs investigations
• Risk management coordination

• Recruitment and hiring process for new officers
• Management of the student intern program
• Supervision of the Field Training Program for patrol officers
• Departmental training and professional development

Through these responsibilities, the office helps ensure that officers are properly selected, trained, and supported, and that the department remains accountable to both legal standards and community expectations.
