Chief Of Police
The Milledgeville Police Department is under the command of Chief Woodrow W. Blue, Jr. Chief Blue was born at Moody Air Force Base, located in Lowndes County, Georgia. He began his law enforcement career March 31, 1979 with the Hahira Police Department. He was appointed Police Chief of the Hahira Police Department in January 1982 at the age of 26.
Chief Blue joined the Milledgeville Police Department in September of 2000 as Deputy Chief of Police under former Chief Fred Hayes. Chief Blue assumed the role of Chief of Police for the department January 1, 2002.
Chief Blue has been the recipient of several community and professional awards:
1983, TOP Gentleman in Lowndes County;
1985, Pioneer in Law Enforcement Award;
1993, Outstanding Community Service Award;
2004, Appreciation Towards Ending Violence;
2007, The Law Enforcement Award.
Chief Blue has a Bachelor of Science degree from Valdosta State University in the field of Criminal Justice. He received his Masters degree in Public Administration from Columbus State University.
On June 24, 2003, Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue appointed Chief Blue to the Private Detective and Security Board. Chief Blue was reappointed, July 2007, to another four-year term.
Chief Blue was elected to 4th Vice President of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police in July 2006. He will assume the Presidency of the Association July 2010.
In addition, Chief Blue is a board member of the Baldwin County Department of Family and Children Services and a Board member of the Milledgeville Kiwanis Club. He is a Deacon at Union Baptist Church in Milledgeville. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and Pi Alpha Alpha Honor Society.
Chief Blue is married to the former Elese Lane of Naylor, Georgia. They have two children, Woodrow III and Kimberly.
